Minnesota Life earns WV public employees group life contract
St. Paul, MN, April 6, 2006 – Minnesota Life Insurance Company was selected to provide basic and optional group life benefits for 119,000 state and local government employees in West Virginia. The contract, which goes into effect July 1, is expected to provide approximately $5.3 billion in life insurance coverage for the public employees and their families.
Minnesota Life also will create a local service presence with an office in Charleston, which will be up and running when the coverage goes into effect July 1.
- West Virginia is the ninth state to select Minnesota Life to provide group life insurance to its employees; the others are Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
With more than $400 billion of life insurance in force, Minnesota Life is one of the fastest-growing group life insurers in the U.S., rising from sixteenth largest in 1997 to sixth in 2004, according to a report published by A.M. Best.
